Skiing in Scotland - . From gentle nursery slopes to hazardous black runs you'll find them all here. Cairn Gorm, Glenshee and The Lecht are the places to find your niche in the Cairngorm ski area. To be in a friendly setting, with no language problems is a bonus for beginners or if you have children. Relax,  you don't have to get togged up in the latest fashion to have fun here - after all, skiing is about fun.

 

 

 

CairnGorm

                     Skiing Cairngorms                   Snowboarding Cairngorms 

Mountain: Located in the Cairngorm National Park this has become a very popular ski resort. It should suit all standards from beginner to expert. Snowboarders have their own Terrain Park which is maintained by a squad of volunteers. Equipment hire and tuition available. There is a snow sports school so it is a great place to start. The recently opened funicular railway gives quick and interesting access to the top of the mountain where you will also find a restaurant and shop. The Ptarmigan Bowl (see cam) is a good place to begin while Coire Cas is a good intermediate run. For the experienced there is Coire na Ciste. There is 37km of pisted runs, the longest being 2.2km.  Aviemore, the nearest town is a resort town so provides ample shops, eating houses and hotels.

Lecht

                         Skiing The Lecht               Snowboarding The Lecht

is at 2090 ft above sea level amid the beauty of the Eastern Cairngorms at Strathdon. This natural playground offers exciting year-round activities. It is an ideal place for youngsters to learn. It has snow making equipment and is a designated snowboard fun park - there's snowtubing and deval karting. The ticket office and ski and snowboard hire are close to the White Hare Cafe near the car parks.  There is ski and snowboard school beside the nursery tows. You can also hire ski, snowboards and clothing. The shop provides all your forgotten items! There is a restaurant and snack bar. The atmosphere is relaxed so if you're a beginner it's a good place to start, not that there aren't some terrifying places like black Harrier, only for the experienced! There is 20km of pisted runs,  longest being 900m.

Glenshee

Cairnwell by Braemar. Not exactly the Cairngorms but its in the general area. Glenshee is situated on the A93, 9 miles south of Braemar and 25 miles north of Blairgowrie The area is particularly suited to intermediate skiers - terrain offers cross-country skiing and snowboarding. Offers pisted runs of 40km, the longest being 2km. 38 runs, 10 green, 13 blue, 13 red and 2 black. Three mountain restaurants and off piste skiing, equipment and clothing  hire. Beginners packages.
