Tourist Information for Windsor & Eton
The historic towns of Windsor and Eton have grown up over the centuries in the shadows of Windsor Castle. Its striking towers and battlements are visible from every approach to the town, creating one of the worlds most familiar skylines.
Windsor was of particular importance to the Norman conquerors given the significance of the River Thames as the main trade route from the capital the country. The Thames remains an important feature of the region especially for recreation such as boat trips (see French Brothers). Today Windsor is a mix of ancient and modern with its cobbled streets and some of the buildings dating from the 17th century. The Old King's head in Church Street bears a plaque recording the warrant for the execution of Charles I in 1648. Next you will find Burford House reputed to be where Charles II housed his favourite mistress, Nell Gwynne. Queen Charlotte Street is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the shortest street in Britain as just 51ft, 10inches.
Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle anywhere. It is one of three official residences of Her Majesty The Queen, the other two being Buckingham Palace in London and Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. Visitors can see five main areas of the castle. The site was chosen by William the Conqueror. Just a stroll from Windsor Castle is the picturesque 15th century Eton High Street and world famous college. Take a look at some of the specialist shops.
Eton College founded in 1440 by Henry VI. Eton College was built to provide accommodation for seventy poor scholars who would then go on to further their education at Kings College Cambridge. Visitors are allowed but a visit to the Eton web site is advised to check times etc. Eton lies on the opposite bank of the River Thames to Windsor

Legoland Windsor - you can enjoy over 50 interactive rides and attractions. A must for children - adults will probably enjoy it too!
The Savill Garden. One of Britain's finest ornamental gardens - its only function is to be enjoyed by all who walk through it. Created in the 1039's it began as a woodland garden but has evolved as time went by, It has native and exotic species
For trains from the Windsor & Eton Riverside Station to London Waterloo use South West Trains they cover Berkshire, Devon, Dorset, E & W Sussex, Hamps, Surrey & Wilts. Or For Windsor & Eton Central railway station - this is served by shuttle service of trains from Slough and goes to London Paddington and West Country - see First Great Western Railways
Windsor is west of London. The M4 motorway is closest road link - take J6. About 20 minutes from west London.
